Q & A with Treasure Hunt Sales

Kelly Kurz, Owner, Treasure Hunt Sales

By Sponsored May 9, 2013

It’s the bargain hunter’s favorite time of year, whether you love hitting up multi-family garage sales, or mega-size consignment sales. Who doesn’t love saving big bucks on stuff your family needs?  One Lakeville consignment sale, Treasure Hunt Sales, is gearing up for its spring sale on May 16-18.  Let’s get to know them and owner, Kelly Kurz.

Q:  What makes Treasure Hunt Sales unique?

A:  Treasure Hunt Sales is a twice-a-year sale where people can sell their gently-used, good condition items.  The inventory at our Kids & More Sale covers a wide range – from baby and kids’ merchandise, to juniors and adult clothing, home décor, purses, housewares, crafting and scrapbooking, jewelry, and much more.  There are treasures for every age and stage of life!  We try to provide an easy selling process (with online how-to videos, tagging supplies, and sorting unsold items) and a fun and fabulous shopping experience, with free admission, 20,000 square feet of bargains, great vendors, and something for everyone.

Q: How did Treasure Hunt Sales get started?

A:  In 2009, my husband (Kyle) and I started this business, and our first sale was in the spring of 2010.  It was a little fundraiser in the school gym of our kids’ elementary school.  Now in our 8th season, the upcoming sale will be about 10 times bigger than that first one!  The idea of selling and saving at Treasure Hunt Sales is catching on, and we hope the community has been blessed by it.

Q:  What is the best way to get involved?

A:  We are still accepting consignors, but the deadline is fast approaching!  Saturday, May 11, is the last day to sign up and enter inventory in the online system.  Consignors earn 70% on all your sold items.  If you volunteer 4 hours, you earn 75%.  Volunteer 8 hours, earn 80%.  There’s an $8 participation fee and no limits on how much you can sell or earn.   Volunteers also get the perk of shopping first at the pre-sale.  You can also connect with us on Facebook and our email list.

Of course the best way to experience Treasure Hunt Sales is to come, explore, and see what treasures you’ll find!  Public sale hours are:

May 16-18 (Thursday-Saturday)

10-7 Daily.  Saturday, many items will be half price.

Ames Arena, 19900 Ipava Ave, Lakeville

Free admission and parking during all sale hours.  Cash and credit cards accepted.

Q:  What’s the big deal about the pre-sale?

A:  If you’ve ever been at the public sale when the doors open, you’ll appreciate the perk of shopping before that crowd rushes in!

  • Best selection, especially on high-demand items.
  • Comparison shopping at its best!  When there are multiple identical items, you can pick the lowest priced one.
  • You get the smallest crowds and shortest lines of anyone.

There are 4 ways to get in the Pre-Sale: volunteer, consign, be a new mom, or come to the public fundraiser.  Here’s the schedule:

Wednesday, May 15 Pre-Sale, 5-9 pm

5:00  8 hour Volunteers, plus 1 guest

5:30 4 hour Volunteers, plus 1 guest

6:00 Consignors and New Moms, plus 1 guest.  (New moms register here)
