"Oh what fun it is to ride in a one horse open sleigh....." The holidays are upon us and Christmas will be here before you know it. Here are some fun events in and around your community to get you into that holiday mood. Enjoy! 

Farmington:

Christmas in the Village/ Village Holidays
First 2 weekends in December
(Weather permitting)
Dec. 5, 6, 12 & 13
Hours: 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm - Saturday & Sunday
$6.00 - 13 and up
$3.00 - 4 thru 12
Free - 3 and under
Trolley rides free with paid admission
Location: Dakota City Heritage Village
Things to Do: Trolley Rides, holiday lights, meet Santa, and there will be cooking in the Harris House, along with holiday music.

Toys for Town:
Toys for Town donations will be accepted through Tuesday, December 15. The annual drive is organized by the Farmington Police Department to help make the holiday season special for children in our community. Look for Toys for Town containers at several locations throughout the community to donate unwrapped toys through Tuesday, December 15. Monetary donations will also be accepted. Mail or drop off a monetary donation at the Police Department or City Hall. Volunteers are needed to wrap gifts at Farmington High School, 20655 Flagstaff Avenue at 9 a.m. on Saturday, December 19

Trains & Treats:
All aboard, next stop the Rambling River Center for a fabulous train display. In addition to the display, all the makings for Twinkie Trains will be available. Of course, Santa will be making an appearance!
When: Saturday, November 28
Train Display (FREE): 9:00 a.m.-noon
Twinkie Trains (Cost: $2 each): 9:00-10:30 a.m.

Secret Holiday Shop: Saturday, December 5, 2015 (9 AM to 12 PM); Rambling River Center, 325 Oak Street, Farmington; This annual event is the perfect time and place for children to shop for Holiday gifts. The fun is keeping it a secret from Mom and Dad. This is done with the assistance of shopping and wrapping volunteers. Gifts range in cost from .50 to $7.50. Children buy tickets that spend like money for use in the Holiday Shop. If they are not spent they are returned for cash. Just show up! No preregistration.

Holiday Skate with Santa
: Sunday, December 13, 2015 (1:30 PM to 3 PM); Schmitz-Maki Arena, 114 West Spruce Street, Farmington; Games, prices and of course Santa; Free with food shelf donation.

Lakeville
:

Holiday on Main
: Saturday, December 5, 2015 (9 AM -2 PM); Post Office Mall, Holyoke Ave, Downtown Lakeville; Get in the holiday spirit with photos with Santa (bring your own camera), storytime with Mrs. Claus, Coloring contest, face painting, live Reindeer, Free horse Drawn Trolley rides, Christmas Carols & more; Free to attend, just show up.

Holiday Vendor Market:
Crafts are back at the Heritage Center! Start your holiday shopping with a great selection of quality handmade items and crafts. Purchase unique one-of-a-kind gifts for the special people in your life (or for yourself)!
 
Holiday Bake Shoppe:
Purchase homemade holiday treats, sweet breads, cookies, candies and more. Juice, hot cocoa, hot cider and coffee will also be available. Relax and enjoy the treats and be sure to take some extras home!
 
Santa's Secret Store:
Santa’s Secret Store is specially designed for children or grandchildren to purchase gifts priced from $1 to $15 for family and friends. Children and parents work together to make a shopping list including who to buy for and how much to spend on each person—Then it’s shopping time! While parents wait in the coffee shop, volunteers assist the children with their gifts. Gifts are wrapped and brought home to remain a secret until the holidays. All ages welcome, no registration required.
 
Cookies for Santa:
Decorate a cookie for Santa, enjoy fun holiday activities and fill your plate with cookies for Santa! Pastries for kids and adults to enjoy. Program takes place during the Santa’s Secret Store (above). An open house format, you determine how long your child wants to participate within time listed below. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Deadline to register is Dec. 1. $5 per child, adults free. Register online for each time slot: 9-10 a.m., 10-11 a.m., 11 a.m.-noon, noon-1 p.m.

Apple Valley:

Instructors: Parks & Recreation Department Staff & Santa Claus
What: All children 3-10 years old are invited to spend an hour with Santa Claus on Saturday, December 5th. Come to the Apple Valley Community Center where Santa will visit with you and your family while you enjoy special treats. Following breakfast, each child will take part in a variety of holiday activities, crafts, games, and have their picture taken with Santa.
